Delivering the definitive gaming experience for Sonic fans old and new, Sonic Generations Sonic the Hedgehog playable as both the much loved classic 1991 character, and the modern day video game hero he has become in this exciting new fast paced adventure.

Set across three defining eras from 20 years of Sonic the Hedgehog video game history, the instantly recognisable environments of Sonic Generations have been re-built in stunning HD and are now playable in both classic side scrolling 2D from 1991, as well as modern 3D style found in Sonic's most recent adventures. Reviews of Sonic Generations Game 3DS

Sonic Generations 3DS is an interesting Sonic game but with many flaws. Unlike its counterpart on the PS3 and 360 consoles, the 3DS version is strictly 2D in perspective. This becomes a little monotomous and actually makes the game rather difficult to play at times given a small screen and cheap level designs that throw bottomless pits and quicktime events you way - particularly in regards to Modern Sonic who unlike in the Console versions, is horrible to play as.

Although some of the level choices themselves are arguably better than on Console, they're ruined by the aforementioned terrible level design, with only the first 3 Classic Sonic stages being any good (being that they are exact replicas of Green Hill Zone, Casino Night Zone and Mushroom Hill Zone respectively).

For diehard Sonic fans i'd recommend they take a look, but for anyone else - you're better off just playing a console version of Sonic Generations which overall is by far superior in almost every way.

Overall the game was pretty good. I love how you get the feel of the old, beloved retro-Sonic and the twist of the new modern-Sonic. Such a good Sonic game hasn't really been seen since the 'Rush' titles. The game play itself was great. The adrenaline pumping speeds, beautiful scenery (old and new) and the acts really bring the game back to when Sonic was at it's best; without all the horrible gimmicks like talking swords, were-hogs after dark and irrational genies that the franchise has been spamming the consumers with. When it came to the storytelling however, I had a very different opinion. I really disliked the way it tried to incorporate the story into the game as it was difficult to follow and considering how wonderful the in-game visuals were it was quite a letdown when the cut-scenes began playing.

If you're not a fan of Sonic, then this won't sway you.

However, if you love the blue blur, than this 3DS title is a great debut for the hedgehog. Unlike the PS3/X360 counterparts, both 'classic' and 'modern' Sonic are played on a 2D plane. The former is a slower, more methodical affair (like the old games), whilst the latter is a blisteringly fast rollercoaster akin to the Sonic Rush titles on DS.

A great little game, only let down by the traditional Sonic bugbears (pit traps, some poor level design, etc).

As someone who's previously played Sonic games, I was really looking forward to this. Unfortunately, I didn't really find it all that compelling. The level design is okay, but frustrating at times, and it's quite confusing when you're using old Sonic and new Sonic interchangeably. It gets difficult to remember which moves belong to which Sonic and which one you're playing. This alone made me really frustrated and struggle a bit. But the menu systems are nice, the graphics are lovely, and overall I love the entire graphical style of the game. Recommended for any Sonic fan or platform gamers with a need for speed. Otherwise, stick to mario.
