This game is a direct sequel to Bravely Default. You will want to play that first but it is well worth doing so. If you miss the good old days of Final Fantasy, this is the game for you. That isn't to say it is not innovative. It manages to capture the feel of final fantasy in tone, in story, in characterisation music and of course the beautiful aesthetic and in this it is nostalgic.
However it is certainly a game that seeks to innovate as well in its Brave and Default combat system where by you can conserve turns to use at a later point in the combat.
This game doesn't shift much from the gameplay formula provided by Bravely Default, but it does stream line the game a little which results in less of the repetition that could happen in the previous title.
Highly recommended and essential series for 3ds players.
