I am bad when it comes to drawing and struggle to do anything more than stick figure doodles. I want to do more than just that and drawing Pokemon is something that appealed to me. Before purchasing the Pokemon Art Academy, I was concern if my touchscreen is going to be sensitive enough to draw decent pictures as advertised and if these lessons are transferable to real life drawings.
After purchasing this game and invested 15+ hours with the various lessons, detailed drawings was never a problem even with the small original 3DS screen. You can easily zoom in and out to work on intricate parts and the undo button (left bumper) is easily accessible and helpful to remove your mistakes. Layout is simple and the lessons will teach you different art styles and ways to make your drawings better. No lag, no frustrations at the interface or way the game is designed. It is a really good take-your-own-time kind of game since you can save your progress and come back to it later.
Finally, will this game make you a better artist when it comes to drawing Pokemon? Yes and no. It will not drastically improve drawing on a physical medium because you will be relying on the undo button. That being said, my sketches look much better. However, it will definitely help you with your digital drawing since you will be using layering/opacity/digital paintbrush features that does not exist on physical medium. Highly recommended for people who wants to learn. Might not be suitable for veteran artist since it can be more restrictive compared to Photoshop and Sketchbook by Autodesk.
