I don’t know how but Beenox have managed to take everyone's favourite kart racer game and make it so much more than what we expected for Nitro-Fueled and I have to say, this is the most polished remake of a kart game I have seen so far.
20 years ago this game was the No.1 kart racer game that everyone was playing but was quickly put on the back burner when the interest for Mario Kart grew but now, after playing Nitro-fueled I have a feeling it will take its rightful place on the kart racing throne once again.
Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled instantly takes you back in time to 1999 and the early 2000s and gives you that amazing nostalgic feeling. Seeing all the tracks again, the characters and the crazy Crash colours really takes you back in time but in no way does it mean this remaster is stuck in its past. With modern updates put into the right places, the game feels as good today as it did 20 years ago!
The original game’s list had a selection of 18 tracks which has now been expanded with a further 13 tracks! From underwater tunnels to ice caves to desert pyramids, those have all had an update and many more amazing tracks have been added, some you may even spot from Crash Nitro Kart.
When you first start playing, the handling does take a little longer to get used to than other games but when you haven’t played the game for quite some time, it is understandable that things may be a little alien but you quickly warm back up and get to grips with the handling again. The power slides can be slightly sensitive at times and not sensitive enough at others, leading to you missing a few crates but once you familiarise yourself with the game and how the controls work, you’ll be whizzing through that courses like you never stopped playing.
Lots of people have compared the power-ups in Nitro-Fueled to the ones Mario Kart has, being that Crash’s green beakers are Mario’s bananas and that Crash’s Aku Aku and Uka Uka are Mario’s Super Star along with many other comparisons but Nitro-fueled goes on to offer that little bit of a twist! When you collect Wumpa fruit from the course, not only will they speed you up but they also supercharge your power-ups making them a whole lot more powerful.
Another great feature that has been added in an attempt to modernise the game is its Adventure. This allows you to switch between characters, change the difficulty of the game and even switch between the original PlayStation audio for that nostalgia or the new re-vamped soundtrack! Being able to switch the difficulty of the game solves a lot of the games more irritating times too, especially if you haven’t got a hang of the game as quickly as you’d hoped and is a great feature that’s been added.
As well as all of the updates Beenox have already launched, they are still adding more additions to the game, and for free! On July 3rd, the 1st event will be the "Grand Prix" where players will gain free access to the all-new track “Twilight Tour”, and they will be able to complete races during this limited-time event to earn progress toward customisation options like new characters, skins, karts, and stickers too. It’s like a battle pass but it doesn’t cost you anything!
There are planned to be 3 Grand Prix events altogether, each with a brand new track and racer but I do have my suspicions that if the game goes well and the feedback and reaction from these additional events is good that Beenox may have even more in store for us!
My Overall Opinion
To keep it short, it’s important to say that even when the nostalgia fades away, Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled still remains fun and is not something I see myself getting sick of playing any time soon.
Beenox has managed to take a 20-year-old classic and turn it into a modern-day fan favourite, putting it back in its rightful place on the kart racer throne.
For years, Crash has been laid dormant, waiting for its to make a comeback and become the king of kart racers once more, well 20 years later, now is that time. Crash is back in business.

Don't be fooled by Lucy's looks, she is gaming mad and really into her retro games! She's a know it all when it comes to the more older games and thinks she's unbeatable when it comes to her Tetris high score.
