Everything We Know So Far About Borderlands 3
It's been 5 long, hard years since we’ve had a Borderlands game and I for one, cannot wait to take my pick from one of the billion guns to choose from and jump right back into Pandora and Co and start shooting.
There's a lot to break down, especially after this year's E3, so let's start;
E3 2019’s Official Trailer - We Are Mayhem
You’ve probably seen it by now but just in case you missed the official trailer from this years E3, watch it here...
What is the Borderlands 3 release date?
The game will be released on September 13th 2019 and will be an Epic Store exclusive until for six months.
What formats will the game be on?
Borderlands 3 will be available to play on PS4, Xbox One and also PC. Gearbox has even promised the return of up to 4 player co-op and the always welcome 2 player split-screen is back so you will be able to call up your friend, order a pizza and have an absolute blast.
Brand new Vault Hunters.
It’s time to say goodbye to our previous vault hunters like Salvador, the dual-wielding gunzerker from Borderlands 2 and Nisha, the law-bringer from Borderlands the Pre-Sequel.
In Borderlands 3, there will be 4 brand new Vault Hunters in town, all searching for that legendary wealth that’s hidden within those vaults.
Moze the Gunner - Moze puts a new spin on the Gunner class by ditching the stationary turret and summoning the “Iron Bear Mech”.
Amara the Siren - Her action skill consists of conjuring up six telekinetic arms for a ground-pounding punch attack.
FL4K, AKA “The Beastmaster” - His action skill summons many different beasts of which we’ve seen a Skag, Spiderant, and a mysterious creature that walks on two legs and carries its own gun.
Zane the Operative - Much like Zer0 from Borderlands 2, Zane plays the Assassin class. His action skills utilize a drone that he sends into battle to assist in dealing with damage.
In typical Borderlands fashion, each of the new Vault Hunters come with their own skill trees, meaning that Borderlands 3 will continue to offer its usual replayability value allowing you to have more than one experience as you switch between the characters.
What about the loot?
Borderlands 3 will have over a billion guns, presumably with lots of random properties and surprises. As looking at a Borderlands gun doesn't really tell you what weird stuff it can do (Does it explode? Shoot chemicals? Set people a light?), most of the guns will need to remain a mystery, though we can expect loads of elemental damage and explosions.
Guns on legs! Gearbox has also promised guns that "chase down enemies while hurling verbal insults", which sounds great but also terrifying if you are on the receiving end.
Where will we be doing this shooting?
Gearbox has confirmed that Borderlands 3 won't just be set in Pandora but across multiple planets within the Borderlands universe, which brings with it the promise of brand new exciting landscapes, cities and enemies to shoot.
This begs the question of how will we get to these new planets? Well, fear not, as we have the answer… The game will feature a new player hub called Sanctuary 3 (how’d they think of that?), It’s a spaceship which you will use to find these new planets. Don’t worry though, as you won't be lonely on your brand new spaceship as all your friends from the floating city Sanctuary from Borderlands 2 will be joining you.
Who are the big baddies this time around?
The Borderlands series brought us arguably the best video game bad guy we’ve seen within Handsome Jack, charismatic yet threatening. We wanted to rid Pandora of him yet at the same time, never wanted him to go.
Borderlands 3 will feature some new baddies, there will be loads of people and aliens and robots but the Calypso twins will be the games new big bad’s. According to Randy Pitchford, the twins are "like the douchiest kind of live streamers of the future you can possibly imagine.” In the trailer we see the twins standing over a defeated Lilith, crawling looking defeated. Her tattoos have vanished hinting that Lilith could have possibly lost her powers.
The Calypso twins seem to have brought with them a pretty sick army of psychos, mutants, monsters and varkids, a pretty tough bunch to beat. Do you think you’ll have what it takes to defeat them?
Vaults, Not Vault!
Not one, loads! Accompanying the new planets in Borderlands 3 will be multiple vaults to find "and what do you find within these vaults?” I hear you ask... Massive boss fights!
These bosses will be multiphase and massive and if they recreate the feeling of first seeing the Rakk Hive boss in Borderlands 1 it’ll get an instant 10/10 from me. We’re not sure yet whether the main story will be about getting to these vaults but they will definitely be a big part of the adventure.
The best of the rest.
Communication will be at an all-time high with a new ping system Gearbox have added. It helps those who can’t (or don’t care to) use a microphone communicate with their other teammates and is quite similar to the systems found in Apex and Call Of Duty Black Ops 4.
Another big change to online is the fact that loot is no longer shared, yep, no more arguments of who shot that big nasty thing the most so they deserve the new shiny gun it dropped. Each player will now get their own loot drops but there will still be the option to switch back to Borderlands 2-style shared loot drops, though. Everything you see now is yours to keep.
Finally, there is a new addition called Artifacts, these will bring changes to your movement such as the one showcased in the trailer like the fact you can slide faster. You can slide and every time you slide there's an explosion.
Everyone in the office is eager to get back into the Borderlands and we look forward to seeing you there!
