Quite pricy considering what it is, but it is easy to tell that so much effort has gone into to it. If you are just starting out as a Dungeon Master, this is a great way of not only learning the ropes, but also how to really get your players inspired and motivated and really get them enthralled in a game.

Having come from 2nd Edition Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, 5th edition is a really streamlined yet still fun version of D&D. We started our campaign with the Starter set and we had to wait along with everyone else for the DMG. While it is really only 'needed' for the magical items descriptions - which are really nicely done with gorgeous illustrations, the 5th Edition DMG is chock full of TABLES akin to those found in the 1st edition Dungeon Master's guide. There are three major sections to the book: Part 1 deals with designing a campaign world with lots of helpful charts for getting ideas flowing and advice for putting it all together. Part 2 looks at adventure design and customizing it to the play style of your group along with ideas (again in TABLES) for NPCs and adventures sites, etc. The last section is the 'Rules' section containing variant rules for making combat a bit more tactical and other things affecting adventuring, along with lots of magical item descriptions. All in all, this is probably my favourite version of the DMG so far. While you can certainly run a game of 5th edition without it, I doubt you'll be disappointed if you add it to your RPG library.

One of the nicest DM's guides I've seen yet. Beautifully designed and engineered towards a fantastic gaming experience with your gaming group. The book is ultimately split into three sections: creating worlds, creating adventures and running them altogether. Some very nice example maps are also provided in the rear of the book, that provide some great setting ideas from dungeons and caverns, to ships and towers. All in all, if you're looking at getting into 5E, I would say: don't hold back!
