The first of three epic instalments in director Peter Jackson's blockbuster prequel to his Lord of the Rings' trilogy. Set in Middle-Earth 60 years before events in The Lord of the Rings, the story follows the adventures of Hobbit Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), who, at the instigation of the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen), suddenly finds himself co-opted into joining a company of 13 Dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) to help reclaim the Dwarves' lost kingdom of the Lonely Mountain from the clutches of Smaug the dragon (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch). After setting out on their quest from the safety of Bag End, the band of travellers soon find themselves pitted against a range of strange and fearsome opponents, in addition to a small, slimy creature known simply as Gollum (Andy Serkis).

I love this movie! The pacing issue at the start I don't really notice, because it is just like in the book. Also, people say that they just made up a lot of stuff, however, in books such as Unfinished Tales, by J. R. R. Tolkien, you realise that everything is taken from him. The music and special effects are flawless and great!

The Hobbit an Unexpected Journey is a great film to watch. It has a great story and keeps you interested. The one thing that stands out the most to me are the CGI effects. They are amazing, especially on blue-ray. I also like the fact that I can watch it on my tablet or phone. I recommend this set to fans of the Hobbit and the lord of the rings.

Definitely a must buy for fans of Lord Of The Rings, if you are yet to see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Peter Jackson is back at the helm doing what he does best and this film will not disappoint! Although it is not perfect, there are some parts that had to be removed from the film for continuity that were in the original novel. Also quite handy to have the UV copy, especially if you are having troubling viewing with certain BD software on your PC, there's always a digital copy at hand just in case this happens!
