The new social stuff is something that you either love or hate. My Sims 3 experience is predominantly a single player one. This doesn;t mean that I didn't like certain aspects of the Simport extension and ingame communication features, but I certainly don't feel like I use them very much. However, luckily, they have been included with the very solid performance aspect of the add-on, which is rich with new ideas, paths, interactions, traits and missions. Best of all though? Being able to use a whole bunch of new design/architectual styles to create performance halls and venues. Really, really good.
