I would give this a 3/5. Instead of a visual novel where you solve puzzles and investigate murders like previous instalments, this game play as a shooting/survival horror game. As this was my first time playing a shooting games, I found it quite easy to play. It still has a lots of reading/story that set between the 1st and 2nd game, so playing previous Daganronpa games are required to understand this story. The story is as much twisty as the previous games, with lots of 4th wall breaks, which made me laugh and enjoyed a lot. However, it packs with too much pedophiles jokes that makes me feel too sick to enjoy this game fully, so beware if you decided to pick this up
This game takes quite a departure from previous titles in the Danganronpa series. While it is still just as plot driven as previous titles it is not presented in a visual novel format with problem solving trials. Instead this game takes a 3d action adventure leaning towards survival horror in its tone. The shooting mechanics are not the most innovative, but they are fun and relatively polished and like past Danganronpa titles it is the storyline and characters that propel the player though the game. Speaking of which, this title more or less assumes prior knowledge of the series so going in without having played previous titles may result in some confusion. Dropped a star for some roughness around the shooting mechanics, and for the Japanese language option being a download rather than on the card - Whilst the download is free (awesome!) it being a DLC means you need to ensure you get a copy of the game with the same region as your PSN account (less awesome). This said the voice acting for both English and Japanese are top notch as they have been with previous titles. Highly recommended
The first thing to note about Danganronpa Another Episode Ultra Despair Girls (such a long name) is that it is not like the rest of the Danganronpa series. While the game does feature a lot of reading, it is not a visual novel and is more akin to a decent 3rd person shooter adventure game. There is also a little bit of survival horror gameplay aspects as well. However, don't let the game's rough shooting mechanics scare you away. The characters are really interesting with excellent development throughout a really compelling story with twists and turns all over the place. Music is quite good with some catchy tunes and the character models look great. However, if you haven't played the first game in the series, you will probably be confused with the story because at times it heavily relies on the player having prior knowledge of events in the previous game.
