Dragon Quest The Journey of the Cursed King Game PS2

The most popular Japanese game ever finally comes to the UK, with a role-playing game of incredible size, depth and charm. Lead your motley crew of heroes and heroines in a quest to restore the king as you fight the most bizarre line-up of bad guys in video game history.

Although this is actually the eighth game in the core series, each Dragon Quest game has, like rival Final Fantasy, a completely different storyline so you don't have to worry about not understanding the plot. In any case the game is far more interested in combat than endless cut scenes, with a turn-based system that is simple to use but allows for a huge range of different magical and melee attacks. What gives the game its real charm are the excellent cel-shaded graphics, designed by Dragon Ball Z artist Akira Toriyama. The animation in particular is superb and the game world, in which you are given total freedom to explore, is enormous.

  • Unique visual style (character design by Akira Toriyama, creator of Dragon Ball Z)
  • Intuitive game balance makes this title easy to pick up, allowing rapid engagement with the story and environment
  • Freedom to go anywhere the eye can see in a huge, seamless and colourful world
  • Battle against a wide variety of weird and wonderful monsters
  • Party members deploy spectacular attacks and spells in stunning 3D
  • Individual party members' behaviour can be customised for optimal battle performance
  • Time passes from day to night revealing an entirely different side to towns and dungeons

Quests are fun! This game is a third person turn based combat Japanese role playing adventure. Styled like a japanese cartoon this game looks great. The world is vast and very free to explore with many rewards to be found for making the effort to travel as far as you can see. Combat is a fairly standard turn based affair but all works well for a great story!

This game is quite possibly my favourite game ever. It's certainly one of the best turn-based JRPG's ever. Dragon Quest 8 is the perfect timesink for anyone who enjoys amazing combat systems, great characters, elaborate team building, monster taming and secrets. I've been playing this game periodically for about 6 years now and it's amazing. The art, the music, the world, it's all beautiful. Just writing this is making me want to play it again right now.

This is one of the best games I have ever played. I've had it for about 5 years and I still periodically go back and play it again. My file had in excess of 120 hours before it got corrupted. Rich storyline (mostly, it does get a little ridiculous down the track) stunning visuals typical of Akira Toriyama and brilliant turn based strategy with a whole host of awesome skills. Pick this game up ASAP!

I dont think that dragon quest is the worst game I have played but I agree that it is not the best. The graphics are bit old but this is a ps2 game. There is some pretty lengthy gameplay here including plenty of side quests to explore and the story is ok. Not bad RPG

Dragon Quest: The Journey of the Cursed King is probably the best Dragon Quest game yet. For those who aren't familiar, if you liked Final Fantasy, you'll love Dragon Quest - lots of team building, side quests, attractive art, secret combos and most importantly of all, plenty of laughs (the story is great). It's a well established franchine but if you haven't played one yet, this is a great place to start.
