Product Description

Medal of Honor Rising Sun Game PS2

Set for the first time in the Pacific Theatre of Operations from 1941-1944, Medal of Honor Rising Sun gives players a sense of the courage it took to fight the Japanese from Pearl Harbor to the shores of the Philippine Islands. Players will assume the role of Marine Corporal Joseph Griffin, as he survives the attack on Pearl Harbor, leads the assault of Guadalcanal, and finally rescues his brother from a Japanese POW camp in the Philippines.
Armed with his wits and a variety of authentic weapons, it's up to players to stop the Japanese war machine in its tracks. Players can even team up with a friend in the all-new co-op multiplayer mode to battle the Japanese forces. Along the way, players will earn awards and medals for their meritorious service in defeating the enemy.

There are so many things going for this game it's hard to list them all - but this is definitely one of the better Medal of Honour games going head to head against the Japanese. From the moment the game starts and you take part in an epic gun battle clearing the skies of kamikaze pilots, cruising down the river on your way to a POW camp, or storming the equivalent of hamburger hill amidst the lush vegetation of heavy jungles with clever enemies stalking, flanking and running at you with bayonets, this game is seriously fun. The guns have improved, which are still period themed but don't have that horrible clunky feel of previous german-themed games whilst realism has been added to the fire-fights. The classic "it's too quiet" pervades the whole game as you stealthily pick off targets silently or violently only to have squads of enemies pour out of somewhere, especially if you make too much noise, screaming in japanese and raining seven kinds of hell down upon you. A wide selection of levels and objectives nicely break up the action so you feel like you've greatly contributed to the war effort in all kinds of ways. Graphics are lush and sound is atmospheric and there is enough grunt and action here to keep pace with more modern xbox and ps3 war games. My only gripe with Rising Sun is the fact that sometimes even when you've clearly got a head shot or filled an enemy solider with bullets the shots don't register - this happens infrequently but if you've spent half an hour sneaking along a dockyard in perfect silence only to have a headshot fail and the alarm raised by a suddenly alerted shipyard or jungle you feel deeply cheated. This is a major flaw in a game where precision and accuracy are paramount and why I am only giving it 4 stars. That said, it doesn't happen enough to slow the action and you can chalk it up to misfire on the part of the rifle or machine-gun. Or aliens stealing the bullets before they hit their target. Whatever you like. A seriously cool installment of Medal of Honour. Highly Recommended.
