Catherine Game PS3 (#)

Please note: this is the NTSC version of the game which is compatible with PAL systems. Any future DLC may require a US PSN account.

Players will enter the life of Vincent Brooks, a 32-year-old man who finds himself caught by the irresistible attraction of the game's titular diversion. Vincent wakes up, hungover, next to a stunningly beautiful woman who isn't his girlfriend. This lands him in a predicament that occupies most men's dreams and nightmares. Did anything happen? Does he tell his longtime girlfriend, who's pressuring him to commit to her? Can he get away with stringing both women along? What will you choose to have Vincent do? Who will you choose to hurt? In life, cheating can ruin everything, but in the world of Catherine, it can also kill you.

Vincent really likes his girlfriend. Katherine's pretty, smart, and successful. Trouble is, now she's sat Vincent down for "the talk," and Vincent's spent his entire life trying to avoid long-term commitment. Since romantic complications are the last thing he wants to deal with, Vincent meets his friends for their regular night of drinks. Little does he know that he's about to be blindsided by a drop-dead sexy freight train named Catherine. When the morning comes, he's hungover in bed next to the most beautiful woman he's ever seen, unable to recall the previous night's events. Was it just harmless fooling around, he wonders, or did something more serious happen between them? Should he tell Katherine? Will he ever see Catherine again? Vincent's about to discover that stumbling on the stairway of love can turn into a horrific, fatal plummet...

As Vincent, a man recently succumbed to the irresistible beauty of the game's titular diversion, players find themselves swept into a treacherous love triangle. Catherine's core themes-those of free will, of the delicate nature of relationships and the choices we make within them, marry perfectly with the intense, terror-filled gameplay that serves to accurately reflect Vincent's growing sense of anxiety. It is an experience wholly unlike any to come before it, and is certain to leave gamers talking and thinking about Vincent's tribulations long after the credits have rolled.

Game Features

  • The Horrors of Love—Vincent's waking fears, doubts, pressures, and growing guilt about commitment and fidelity now gleefully follow him into his dreams, manifesting as horribly disfigured monsters and a ticking clock.
  • Between a Rock and a Soft Place—The player must navigate Vincent through heavy moral decisions. As in real life, hardly anything is black and white. What is the value of honesty? What is the right thing to do? Either way, someone's going to get hurt. Worse yet, someone could die.
  • The Nightmare of Your Dreams—Under the watch of producer Katsura Hashino, acclaimed director of Persona 3 and Persona 4, famed character artist Shigenori Soejima and master composer Shoji Meguro create sights and sounds unlike anything else. As unforgettable and original as the game's narrative, Catherine's visual direction and musical score define and perfectly complement Vincent's terrifying ascent into the dizzying perils of love.
  • Escape With or From a Friend—Local competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes, in addition to leaderboards, ensure that the many thrills and horrors of racing through twisted stages can be enjoyed by more than one player and add hours of extra gameplay to the overall experience.

One of the best games on the PS4. Incredibly deep and challenging puzzle mechanics and excellent social mechanics in the downtime, that work together to create an incredibly well balanced game that stimulates all the senses. Multiple endings, and challenge modes will keep you playing for years to come! I would give it four thumbs up, or 5 Ozgameshop stars :3

Be warned. The puzzles in this game are incredibly frustrating. Not only because they are difficult, but also because they keep you from what is an incredible story-driven narrative. This game definitely isn't for everyone, but rest assured that your patience and perseverance will be rewarded in one of the most unique and compelling games of the past decade.

I bought this game because I love Anime. And what I got was a somewhat frustrating puzzle-game. The over-all story is interesting enough but sometimes the puzzles can be a little too hard. It also doesn't help that you have a VERY short time limit to finish the puzzles. You really have to be on the ball! Still a decent game for adult gamers who are looking for something a little bit different and less cliche than most games these days.

Catherine is far from perfect, having some frustrating puzzles and learning the techniques to overcome them too late, and an very unclear manner of obtaining all the outcomes, but perfection is overrated as Catherine didn’t go for ‘generic and perfect’ it went for ‘different and meaningful’ and succeeded immensely. The fact the game not only entertains you with its dramatic, and tense story and equally thrilling and tense challenges but also gives you a very real insight to your own stance and hidden feelings on relationships and sex. It would be fantastic to see more games like Catherine that takes such a simple premise yet spawns a whole spectrum of themes, symbolism and issues that can be personally relatable. For someone who wants something bizarre, dramatic, meaningful and different, Catherine is definitely a hot date you should go on that could lead to a short passionate fling, or stay on your shelf as a committed love of games.

When I went out of my way and bought this game i thought it would be a delight for me. I was expecting more but got a puzzle game that actually turned out to be quite fun. For the guys out there, this is not what you think it is but for everyone give this a crack, might be your thing!
