Take control of Lightning in an expansive and eve moving world as she fights to save a world doomed by complete devastation.

Fight in exhilarating battles with a more direct battle system and explore the world that Lightning inhabits. With increased freedom and character customisation Lightning Returns Final Fantasy XIII, gives the player unique opportunities as you use your time wisely as the final days of a doomed land close in.

How will you spend your finals days?

  • Lightning under your control: Lightning will be the playable character - with a highly evolved range of techniques for battles and exploring the environment. Customise Lightning with a large range of different outfits and weapons, that affect not only the way she looks, but also her actions and abilities.
  • Action-oriented combat: A new battle system gives a level of direct control over the action unlike any Final Fantasy game, while having iconic elements that are known and loved throughout the series too.
  • A constantly moving, beautiful world: Stunning artistic direction depicts a doomed world filled with choice and diversity. Living, expansive environments featuring a rising and setting sun provide unique experiences for every player.
  • Use your time well: A world on a course for total annihilation presents unique challenges where certain areas, missions, and people will only be available during selected periods. How will you use your remaining time?
  • A connected experience: Stay connected to Final Fantasy and its characters, with unique features that link the in-game world to the real world.

Customer Reviews

This would be the most well rounded entry into the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy. While the story is already quite silly, the game play itself has been improved once again. For those looking to try a piece in the final fantasy series, this game brings a lot to the table.

only the 2nd final fanasy game made by square enix that has a prequel. and just like final fantasy x and final fantasy x-2 this is only the 2nd time that square has made a game like this. really fun game considering that it has been done before and unlike x-2 where the story and main characters are different, this isn't. its a complete sequel.

This game is one of the final fantasy XIII series and you will like it if you have played the previous games (FF XIII and FF XIII-2) because the story is related. I will rate this game 9 out of 10 because the game is quite repetitive and short compared to other 2 previous games series. It has a great graphic and nice story. I am sure all FF fans will love this game.

Unfortunately, I didn't like this game as much as I wanted to. While I found the time mechanic interesting I am not, and probably never will be, a fan of hard time limits in games. Admittedly, there is plenty of time to get everything done, but this isn't entirely apparent at the start. While the worlds aren't tiny, they are still fairly limited and you'll be retreading the same ground quite a bit. However, since the worlds aren't small, if you don't have a strategy guide, going the wrong way can involve a painful and, above all, time wasting trek back to where you're supposed to be. And, outside of the main quests, you don't get much in game support for where you should go to help people. Still, I did enjoy the story and it was a nice, fairly emotional send off to characters we've spent three games getting to know. And the battle system is a nice evolution on the system they introduced in XIII So, all in all, get it if you can get a good price. And use a walkthrough if you're mainly interested in the story. You'll save on a lot of frustration.

A solid conclusion to the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy. It has to be said that the in-game graphics are average at best, and the countdown clock driven gameplay takes a bit of getting used to, but the combat and story are fantastic and do a good job of tying up loose ends in the overarching narrative that spanned the trilogy.
