"The glitz, glamour, and unbridled decadence of the 80s are back in Yakuza 0. A prequel to the long-running series set in Japan's criminal underworld, this entry introduces mainstay protagonist Kazuma Kiryu and series regular Goro Majima as they fight like hell through Tokyo and Osaka in their climb through the yakuza ranks. Along the way, players can interact with all the vices 1988's Japan had to offer: from discos and hostess clubs to classic SEGA arcades, there are tons of distractions to pursue in the richly detailed, neon-lit world.
At its heart, Yakuza 0 is a classic 3D brawler, where players roaming the streets of Tokyo or Osaka will encounter all manners of goons, thugs, hoodlums, and lowlifes to beat up. Featuring an engaging combat system allowing players to switch between 3 different fighting styles instantaneously, Yakuza 0 gives players fluid, free-flowing fights that are easily learned and a joy to master. Take combat up a notch by using environmental objects such as bicycles, sign posts, and car doors for bone-crunching combos and savage take-downs."
A HARD BOILED CRIME DRAMA
The story follows Kazuma Kiryu as a junior yakuza member who finds himself in a world of trouble when a simple debt collection goes wrong and his mark winds up murdered. Meanwhile, Goro Majima is living a "normal" life as the proprieter of a cabaret club, but is doing whatever it takes to rejoin the yakuza. What that entails isn't exactly easy...
FIGHT LIKE HELL
Kiryu and Majima can each switch between 3 brutal hand-to-hand combat styles on the fly to creat the most fluid beatdowns ever experienced in a Yakuza game. Use Heat Actions to trigger violent special attacks, or pick up environmental objects to whale on enemies!
TWO VIBRANT CITIES COMES TO LIFE
Kiryu and Majima will find themselves interacting with many of the colorful denizens of Tokyo and Osaka in some of the most absurdly comedic and heartwarming tales from the red light district. From helping a budding S&M dominatrix learn her profession to ensuring a street performer can make it to the bathroom in time, there are 100 incredible stories to discover.
THE FINEST PURSUITS 1980s JAPAN HAS TO OFFER
One of the main features the Yakuza series has to offer is being able to relax with the various entertainment options around Japan, and Yakuza 0 has more than ever. Players can go to hostess and telephone clubs for some female companionship, disco halls and pocket car races to blow of some steam, hit up the CLUB SEGA Arcades for classic 80s video games, and much, much more!

There's a lot of depth to the story line in this game. That drew me in and I enjoyed playing right through to the end. Yakuza captures the look and feel of Tokyo and really helps immerse you in the game world. I hadn't played any of the previous 6 Yakuza titles before this one and it really didn't seem to matter as the story unfolded and the characters were easy enough to understand. As a previous comment mentioned, it is easy to get side tracked from the main story or just explore the city, it's single player so play your own way anyway. Tokyo looks like a blast of fun.
I'm a long time fan of the series (loved Shenmue, and this seemed a solid continuation of many of those ideas). This game has really hit its stride. Playing both Kiryu and Majima, I was taken aback at the character development. Majima for one, who I never really liked for he was a little too crazy, is really given some context; your heart bleeds for him. This really is probably the best prequel I've ever seen let alone played for anything. The story is brilliant. The combat mechanics are excellent and the visuals are silky smooth. I'm proud to have this in my collection!
My first ever Yakuza game and I love it! The combat is surprisingly easy to understand and the difficulty level goes up with your own skill level which is great. The story has a lot more depth than I thought it would and the cutscenes are very well done. It's subtitled, but that doesn't take anything away from the immersion. It's a great, different game that I think needs a lot more recognition. Highly recommend.
This was the first Yakuza game and it was absolutely amazing. The Main story is full of intrigue with excellent drama and interesting characters (and that applies to the whole cast) with stellar voice acting (which is amazing considering the game is entirely in Japanese with English subtitles). Side missions are self-contained stories of their own and they are often hilarious yet they also tell small meaningful stories sometimes which was very surprising. The combat is visceral and you can feel the intensity of every brutal punch and the finisher animations are flashy and exciting with plenty of variation depending on your selected fighting style, equipped weapon and of course the environment. There is a huge array of full fledged mini games that it would take a while to actually list them all. The music is excellent at establishing tone especially during intense fight scenes where the soundtrack is at its best. The game excels in transporting the player back to 1980s Japan during their economic boom and it really shows off Japanese culture. Yakuza 0 is a solid game of the year contender and if you have any interest in Japanese culture or are looking for an excellent crime drama or even if you're a fan of action games, Yakuza 0 is worthy of your time.
This is my first Yazkua game and I'm absolutely loving it so far. It's so easy to stray from the main story and do side stories or mini-games. You can gamble (poker, blackjack etc), play pool, arcade games hell, you can even play crane games. It looks pretty good and I love the humour. It's a hell of a lot of fun.
