Star Ocean: The Last Hope is the fourth entry in the futuristic space opera RPG series, the long-awaited continuation of the celebrated science fiction and fantasy RPG series. This prequel set during the aftermath of World War III combines sci-fi and fantasy elements spanning multiple planets and the vastness of space itself to recount the origins of the Star Ocean universe. Exhilarating combat expands upon the franchise's famous real-time battle system, introducing amazing graphics and next-gen visual effects.

There are a few major problems that ruin this game. The first major girls you get, Reimi, Lymle, and Welch are all extremely shallow, flat or annoying that you cringe at their scenes, hoping no one comes into the room while you are suffering through pointless dialogue. The next is that you have to be patient before you actually start getting a story, then you realise that its over and you are back running around for hours with a battle system that just isn't as good as prior SO games. Couple that with awful VA I just can't recommend it.
'Star Ocean: The Last Hope' is a well made game that has a brilliant emotion filled story, amazing graphics for the time it was made and flowing game play. It's campaign without side missions is roughly 55 hours long, however I recommend that you complete as many side quests when they become available as SO:THL has an extremely steep difficulty curve. The game is fairly easy to play through at the start but once you hit about 30 hours in the difficulty of enemies sky rockets causing you too power level. The amount of skills available are not very evenly spread as some characters have many more than others but the power and levelling of those skills is spread so that they can all be levelled evenly. All in all, other than an extremely steep learning curve and having to change discs when travelling to different planets later in the campaign which can be extremely annoying, it is a great game and I highly recommend it to anyone that is a JRPG fan.
